IXWebhosting's Shared IP Addresses vs Dedicated IP Addresses
This concept is also known as shared IP hosting and dedicated IP hosting.
Shared IP address : One IP address is assigned to multiple domain names. This creates some limitations, the main one being that you can only access the site using the domain name, not the IP address.
Dedicated IP address : An IP address is assigned to only one domain name. So you can access the website using either the IP address or the domain name.
NOTE : Converting a shared IP address to a dedicated IP address will remove your virtual FTP and SSL services. You can convert a shared IP address to a dedicated IP address only if you have not exceeded your dedicated IP quota.
To change the IP type, please follow the steps below:

  • From the Control Panel, click the domain icon.
  • If there is more than one domain name, select a domain from the list.
  • Click the "Convert to Dedicated IP" link in the IP address column.
  • If prompted, click "Yes, I agree to the above" to confirm the switch. NOTE: If you are converting a dedicated IP address to a shared IP address, it may take up to 72 hours for the transfer to complete. After that, the domain name can be used under the new IP address.
