Virtualmin/Webmin installation package released by ctohome

Virtualmin/Webmin installation package released by ctohome

Although the Virtualmin/Webmin panel is relatively complicated and not suitable for novices, it is relatively stable and has a good reputation abroad. Suitable for people who know ssh and have Linux management experience. This script recommends using centos 5 32-bit/64-bit
One-line command to install the virtualmin panel (last optimized on February 10, 2011 ) :
wget http://www.CTOHome.com/linux-vps-pack/virtualmin.sh;sh ./virtualmin.sh;
At the end of the installation, Zend Optimizer will be automatically installed. Just press Enter all the way. After completion, enter https://your-ip:10000/, username root, and password is your server's root password.
Good news: After installing webmin/virtualmin using the script on this site, it only takes up 70M-150M of memory. It has been successfully tested on dozens of vps.
Did the above command do anything else?

  1. Installed webmin + virtualmin
  2. Installed rar file decompression software
  3. Installed Zend Optimizer software (many PHP programs in China require it)
  4. The unrar decompression software is installed to facilitate the habit of most people in China to use rar to compress files. Linux rar decompression tutorial: http://www.ctohome.com/FuWuQi/2e/182.html
  5. Change the time zone to Shanghai, China, so that overseas VPS customers don’t have to set it up separately.
  6. Modified the default encoding of Apache UTF-8 to OFF, so that gbk simplified Chinese is not garbled by default
  7. Reduce Apache startup process and reduce memory consumption
  8. The MySQL database has disabled skip-innodb and skip-bdb to reduce memory consumption (if necessary, comment them out in my.cnf)
  9. Stopped domain name post office, DNS and other services that are not needed by 90% of websites, such as mailman, to reduce memory consumption
  10. Automatically upgrade the software library in the system to the latest stable version
  11. Installed the latest virtualmin Chinese language pack (continuously improved)

Updated on February 10, 2011:
  1. Automatically set to Chinese interface, no need to set manually (if you need other language interface, please refer to the textbook)
  2. Automatically set the mysql root password (randomly generated, you can view the root password on the webmin backend mysql management page, teaching materials), no need to set it manually
  3. Automatically cancel the default 1G website size limit (if you need to restore it, please set it in the account plan, tutorial)
  4. To save memory overhead, send email, BIND DNS, USERMIN, AWSATS, MAILMAN and other components that 90% of customers don’t need are turned off by default (they can be turned on separately if necessary, please refer to the textbook)
After this optimization, it can be sent directly to 90% of customers after installation, without the need for additional settings, saving a lot of time. Personally, I feel that virtualmin is more stable than kloxo. It perfectly supports php+mysql+zend+apache, and the open source project has fewer bugs.

Webmin initialization settings (after February 2011, the following steps 1, 2, 3, and 4 can be set automatically and no longer need to be set manually):

  1. Enter https://your-ip:10000/, username root, password is the root password, click next all the way, remember to set the root password of mysql! Then: Initialize webmin/set it to Chinese interface
  2. To save memory and other resources, disable webmin's send email and BIND DNS services.
  3. Web pages are garbled. How can I change Apache's default encoding UTF-8 to OFF in webmin?
  4. The website cannot write files, cannot write to the database! How to cancel disk quota in webmin?
  5. It’s done, you can launch the website! How to use webmin to add domain name/add website/FTP/Mysql

For webmasters who know SSH:

  1. Where is the php configuration file php.ini? /etc/php.ini
  2. Where is the Apache configuration file httpd.conf? /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf, note that this conf file also includes all conf files in the /etc/httpd/conf.d/ directory
  3. Where is the mysql configuration file my.cnf? /etc/my.cnf
  4. Reminder: Try not to modify these files manually, you can modify them in the webmin panel.

What is Virtualmin?
Virtualmin is a virtual host management module based on Webmin. I installed Virtualmin on my own virtual machine and found that its functions are very powerful. Personally, I feel that it is no worse than commercial virtual host management tools such as DirectAdmin. Virtualmin provides perfect Chinese support.
Virtualmin uses the following components by default: Apache, BIND, Postfix, MySQL, ProFTPD
What operating systems are supported?
The systems currently supported by install.sh are:
CentOS 4 and 5 on i386 and x86_64
Debian 4.0 and 5.0 on i386 and amd64
Ubuntu 8.04 LTS on i386 and amd64
What is the difference and relationship between Virtualmin and Webmin?
Webmin is a web-based host management system that can run on Linux/freebsd. It has many modules built in and contributed by others. And virtualmin is its virtual host management module

After testing by ctohome.com, virtualmin has better stability for discuz than kloxo panel.
